What is Thai Yoga Massage?

Traditional Thai Yoga Massage is an ancient healing art. It works on the ‘Ten Sen’ energy lines (analogous to acupuncture meridians) through which our natural life force flows.

The therapist uses his or her hands, feet and elbows to apply pressure to important points along these lines, combining that with gentle stretching derived from Hatha Yoga practice. This releases blocked energy and frees the body’s own natural healing potential, thus reducing malaise and fatigue and enhancing health and harmony.

Thai massage is brilliant for managing stress, for business people, yoga & Pilates teachers and therapists, for performers & athletes and any of us who would like to improve flexibility, agility and relaxation. It is very effective for aiding recovery from injuries, as well as helping to prevent injury.

On-site Massage

On site massage (OSM) incorporates traditional styles of massage including Swedish, Acupressure and Shiatsu techniques and Amy’s knowledge and extensive experience of Thai Yoga Massage.. Treatments are carried out over the patient’s clothes to combinations of the back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands and scalp depending on the time allocated for each session (typically between 10 and 30 minutes). No oil or massage medium is used meaning less preparation time and more relaxation time for your patients making it the perfect massage for busy days.

What is yoga?

The word ‘yoga’ derives from the Sanskrit word for a yoking or joining together, or bringing about a realisation of the oneness of body and mind. Particular attention is given to breathing, the work of gravity, and the releasing of unnecessary and unhelpful muscle contraction and tension through breathing techniques and postures. This allows for a lengthening of the spine and widening of the chest and creates more room for internal organs to function more freely and effectively. A feeling of well-being is thus enhanced.

For many people, yoga is primarily a spiritual practise in itself or part of their spiritual practise. Others turn to yoga to remedy physical pain, mental instability or emotional disturbances. Yoga is valuable for people of all ages and in all walks of life. It’s a way of learning about your self and your current limitations. It’s also a path to extending those limitations through releasing unnecessary ways of keeping yourself tense.

We can learn ways to release tension, allowing the spine to lengthen, to awaken lazy muscles and calm down busy ones, learning to breathe and move more freely.

What is Pilates?

The focus of this method is to re-balance the biomechanical structural within the body to avoid wear and tear of the joints by maintaining good posture. This is achieved through use of controlled and precise movements in order to re-align the body’s posture. Specific muscle groups are targeted and strengthened in order to improve the body’s core stability whilst others are lengthened and released. Focus is given to activating and strengthening the muscles groups in the abdominal, trunk and back region. Focus is given to the abdominal area as strengthening this part of the body allows the spine to be supported and the rest of the body to be in its maximum muscle balance.

Pilates is an excellent form of exercise during and after pregnancy as well pre and post surgery. As it is focus based, you are able to work certain parts of the body whilst leaving others alone, if need be. Pilates is commonly used in rehabilitation, as it is a very effective aid in recovery from injury.

Adhering to these principles, Pilates helps align the posture, build strength, increase flexibility and agility and lengthen the spine rather than build big muscles. With the primary focus being on the ‘core stability’ the lower back in supported through the use of all of the abdominal work.

Yogalates

Is a class I have designed to incorporate the breath and flow yoga and the stability and strength of Pilates. A good work out and a very effective way to maintain fitness.
